I am part of a scavenger hunt in Mall X. The mall contains all my dream locations instead of it's normal shops. Haunted ride, museum, train station, Antique House,...etc. I am teamed up with a college fraternity and sorority. The frat and sorority are brother sister chapters to each other. We are searching all over the mall for the one hundred golden coins. The fist to find them wins. The only problem is the coins appear then disappear. We manage to only find eighty-four of the golden coins. Then the scavenger hunt is over and we have lost.
"Fuck losing," I think.
...I slide my awareness backwards along an unknown direction. I have travelled back in time to the beginning of the scavenger hunt...
We search through Mall X only finding eighty-four golden coins. I enter the Haunted Ride, a carnival haunted house ride that looks like a castle on the outside. Time is almost up when I decide to try something different. I rip open the paper covering over the holes in the bottom of my ride. Inside I find a severed head of a zombie woman. She then shrieks at an inhuman volume. The head floats out of the hole and stairs at all of us. It is still shrieking. My teammates flee.
"I make my own choices not some severed head. I choose not to be afraid," I think.
I rip the paper of the other holes in the ride's floor. Four more zombie heads shriek and float out. One has no lower jaw. Scully and Mulder, from the X-files, are ridding in the car behind mine.
...My awareness leaves my body and moves to Scully's voice...
"The contest has chosen to write clues for the location of the other golden coins in each line of the scavenger hunt. The mother is the water."
...my awareness returns to my body...
The mother is the water. I realize the line is referring to the stream of water running through the ride. It is a deep and dark circle of water. The coins are hidden under the surface of the water. No wonder we could never find them.
